For an uphill climb, it is quicker to shift down using the left shifter that controls the front gears instead of using the right shift which controls the rear gears. On the other hand, when accelerating down a hill, AFPCYCLING advices new riders to avoid shifting too quickly because this will cause the chain to jump off the gears completely.
