Los Angles Press Releases

(LosAngeles.CityRegions.Com, March 16, 2016 ) Palmdale, CA -- People collect many things in the way of art and beauty. For example, some collect porcelain or ceramic figurines, some people collect paintings, while some collect and grow orchids or other flowers, just to name a few. And then there is also a world-wide group of collectors of mineral specimens and rocks.
One rock favored by many collectors is petrified wood, also referred to as fossil wood. "Petrified" basically means turned to stone. It's where some kind of organic matter, such as a tree or plant among other things, is turned to stone over time, by a process where the original substance is encrusted or replaced by mineral deposits. A "fossil" is the remains or impression of some prehistoric plant or animal that has been preserved in petrified form. So the remains of what once were trees, long since turned to stone, are collected today as petrified, or fossil, wood.
The curious part of this is, these rocks maintain many of the original qualities of the tree that the minerals replaced. But the minerals bring an amazing variation in the coloring from one specimen to the next. While each piece varies, one can often spot tree rings, or the tiny cell structure patterns, and even the recognizable texture and shape of the bark on the edges.
EAGems had a small batch of these fossils from Madagascar. They did a test to see how well they would be desired through Amazon. They sold out in very short order. As a result, they sought out more of these uncommon pieces.
It was announced with an earlier press release once the owners returned from the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show, that they were able to acquire another nice batch of the Madagascar petrified wood. And now, they are pleased to report a selection of these unique specimens are once again available through Amazon.
