Anti-theft RFID Card Cases Will Avoid Electronic Theft

Explaining the dangers of RFID chips in credit and charge cards.

(LosAngeles.CityRegions.Com, November 25, 2013 ) Grass Valley, California -- Grass Valley, California — Pickpockets are getting brainier than ever, able to develop a technology that can steal most information readily available in a person's Radio Frequency Identification card (RFID). And this can be accomplished just by merely walking near the victim. Through this pickpockets' clever method, information is picked up from a wallet even when it is inside one's pocket.

How does this phenomenon happen?

The great innovation that is RFID is convenient – a card need not be swiped or validated to have a successful transaction. Just a single tap or show near the scanner will immediately provide the details necessary to any deal.

RFID cards are used for easier consumer identification and transaction. The details contained in the card are vital in carrying out an easy purchase, without the consumer having to provide identification, or code numbers and more. Examples of the use of this technology are not new, and include, but are not limited to, credit cards, toll way permits, medial card and membership cards.

RFID chips allow the card to be read by a scanner (special receiver) from a minimal distance. Receivers are usually found at the point of purchase or cashier counters in different outlets. These are the same instruments that thieves use to steal information. And unfortunately, this reading device can be bought by anyone without having to obtain certification or whatsoever—hence the prevalence of this hi-tech stealing nowadays.

The process is accomplished by the high-tech pickpocket disguising his scanner in a notebook, rolled newspaper, etc. As he passes his victim his scanner will pick up the radio signals emitted by the cards in the victims wallet, pocket or purse. There is no need to touch or nudge into where the cards might be.

With the information gathered the thief can make purchases quite easily over the phone or on line. Even duplicate cards are not difficult to create.

However, this doesn't have to happen. One can keep their cards safe.

The best and easiest, though not the only, way to prevent this from happening is to enclose these cards in an aluminum credit card case made especially for this purpose.
