Vitamin D3 Discovered To Lower Cholesterol Levels Amongst Post-Menopausal Women

A recent study has shown that taking vitamin d and calcium after reaching menopause can lower the cholesterol levels amongst women. Much of that effect has been tied to consuming higher levels of vitamin D, based on a study made by the Women’s Health Institute.

(LosAngeles.CityRegions.Com, June 19, 2014 ) Santa Monica, CA -- A study done by the Women's Health Institute, or the WHI, has uncovered that the intake of both supplemental vitamin D3 and calcium has the capacity to improve the cholesterol levels amongst menopausal women. Much of this effect on the cholesterol levels have been tied to increased levels of vitamin D in the subjects' bloodstream.

The trial was composed of approximately 600 women who has had their cholesterol level closely monitored after being given a dose of either 1000 mg of calcium and 400 International Units (IU) of vitamin D3 or a placebo. The purpose of the study was to analyze the effects of both supplements to various aspects of the women's health, including cardiac health and triglyceride levels. The results of the study indicated that the women who took the combination of calcium and vitamin D had significantly lower levels of low-density lipoprotein, more commonly known as the "bad" cholesterol, than those who took the placebo.

"I find this study promising for those in a solid vitamin D3 regimen." Says John W. Collins, president of PacificCoast NutriLabs, known makers of high-quality pharmaceutical supplements such as the PLATINUM Series Vitamin D3. "Taking supplements in your diet has so many benefits, some of them undiscovered yet. Studies like these could remind people how easy it could be to lead a healthy lifestyle by taking the right supplements."

The study has indicated that those taking the placebo had vitamin D levels of less than 30 nanograms per milliliter (ng/mL) in their bloodstream, indicating a slight vitamin D deficiency, according to the Institute of Medicine. The women who didn't take the supplements were also found to have higher levels of low-density lipoproteins than those who took the vitamin D and calcium supplements by as much as 4 to 5 points. In addition to these findings, the researchers have also discovered that among the supplement users, those with higher blood levels of vitamin D had higher levels of high-density lipoprotein, known as the "good" cholesterol, and lower levels of triglycerides.

Though the effects of vitamin D on the rate of cardiovascular failure may look promising, because of the lowered cholesterol levels, the findings themselves are still far from conclusive. The authors, however, believe that the study's results may serve as a good premise for women to consider taking calcium and vitamin D supplements regularly.

To celebrate the results of the study, PacificCoast NutriLabs is offering their PLATINUM Series Vitamin D3 at 40% off. Those interested, may enter the promo code: NEFXPUY7 at checkout when purchasing their vitamin D3 supplements on Amazon.
