It is crafted from beige, natural colored clay and molded to look like a baby bird. It's dimensions, 3" X 2.5" X 2.25", make it a bit larger than a typical egg shaker. Songbird said his intention was to make an ergonomic egg shaker with curves and edges that would rest comfortably in the hand. "I designed it to be a strong percussive instrument as well as a great display item when not in use." said Songbird.

Whereas most egg shakers are made with a plastic outer casing and filled with seeds or beads, the Peep Shake Egg Shaker is made out of a high quality ceramic and filled with little copper pellets. The combination of copper pellets striking against the clay casing makes the sound very pronounced and gives more volume and timbre variability than the typical egg shaker.

"Careful attention was given to the sound and the feel of the Peep Shake." said Songbird. "Just the right amount and size of pellets were added to allow for a swooshing sound as well as a sharp percussive sound. The sound can be modified by the way the instrument is gripped. A light grip gives a bright, open tone and a tighter grip gives a darker tone. "
