(LosAngeles.CityRegions.Com, August 20, 2014 ) Yorba Linda, CA -- In a recent study published by the journal Neurology, scientists confirmed the long-standing belief that Vitamin D3 deficiency is clearly linked to Alzheimer Disease and other forms of memory loss. The connection between low Vitamin D counts and dementia of any kind was even greater than expected. Adults with moderately deficient Vitamin D counts had a 69 percent increased risk of developing Alzheimer's, while the patients with a severe Vitamin D deficiency saw a 122 percent increase.
Currently, five million Americans are living with Alzheimer's, the sixth leading cause of death in America. Dr. Doug Brown of the Alzheimer's Society said, "This study found that people with very low vitamin D levels were more than twice as likely to develop any kind of dementia."
As the study notes, the elderly often struggle with Vitamin D deficiency because their skin has a harder time converting sunlight into Vitamin D, forcing them to rely on other sources such as supplements to acquire Vitamin D.
Commenting on the study, John Cannell, MD stated, "Vitamin D has a profound mechanism of action, as it's really a steroid hormone that turns genes on and off, and no other vitamin works that way. There are at least 1,000 different genes directly influenced by vitamin D."
The emerging supplement company Natures True Medicine is eager to help those fighting Vitamin D deficiencies. The company has recently launched a premium Vitamin D3 product that founder Darla Mendoza believes is one the most important vitamins for the body. "It is important that a study has finally confirmed there is indeed a link between Vitamin D deficiency and Alzheimer's," she said. "Natural Vitamin D3 supplements can truly transform lives, and I'm excited that this study will reveal the importance of Vitamin D3 to more consumers. It is so easy to boost Vitamin D3 levels, and hopefully the world will start recognizing just how vital the right vitamins and supplements can be for long term health and happiness."
