Trained Sports Head Shares Common Myths About Agility Training

(LosAngeles.CityRegions.Com, September 10, 2014 ) Los Angeles, California -- In order to gain the most out of agility training, there are some misconceptions that coaches have to settle, says Chris Moal, CEO of Trained Sports. Moal reveals some of these myths that training coaches usually have.

According to Moal, there are still several training coaches who think that stationary stretching can help their players prepare for practice or competition. Stationary stretching can actually lower an athlete's power output and that athletes must get ready for practice by performing dynamic warm up activities that go from basic, low intensity activities into faster, more intense movements while the muscles start to loosen up.

"This is because you would like to reproduce the movements that players would undergo in a practice or in a game," says Moal.

Another myth that should be corrected is that slow training can make a person fast. Coaches may not directly think this way but their training can sometimes mean the same thing. This is particularly true in sports that are highly aerobic in nature such as field hockey, soccer or lacrosse. Letting kids run and do slow intervals of continuous running might get them in shape but will never make them fast.

"If trainers would like their players to improve their speed and acceleration, then coaches should train them at full speed even during practice," Moal continues.

"This then leads us to the next myth, which says that you can train hard each day. This is totally impossible because any athlete also needs a recovery time," Moal adds.

Recovery is usually 36 to 48 hours after a highly intense training. When athletes do too much, they can become over trained. Trainers will notice that their players complain of soreness more often and will often have higher degrees of fatigue early during competitions.
