(LosAngeles.CityRegions.Com, November 24, 2014 ) Los Angeles, California -- Agility training programs are beneficial to both athletes and non-athletes. Good agility programs should include specific elements to make them successful. Chris Moal from Trained Sports exposes the different elements of agility.
"A complete agility training program should address power, strength, acceleration, balance, coordination and dynamic flexibility," Moal shares.
Strength is the maximum force that a muscle group or a muscle can produce at a particular velocity. When a player is in contact with his opponent, the combination of their weights and the opponent's resistance is the total resistance. Research has shown that there is a strong correlation between agility and strength.
Power is the rate of doing work. The faster a person goes from a place to another, the greater is his power. Acceleration on the other hand is the rate of change in velocity with respect to time. It is the ability to go from an initial position to another position with a great velocity or the ability to efficiently change from a speed to the next.
"On the other hand, coordination is known as the capacity to process and control muscle movements in order to generate athletic skills," Moal adds.
Balance is when a person can keep control of the body while it is in motion. When the body is moving, it experiences different things from the body including kinesthetic awareness, sight and perturbations, which are done by the nervous system to control the center of gravity. When an athlete is agile, he is able to control shifts of his body's center of gravity while experiencing changes in his position.
Flexibility is when an individual has a wide range of motion at a joint while doing active movements. All of these aspects of agility should be included in a comprehensive agility training program in order for athletes and non-athletes to enjoy the benefits of being agile.
