(LosAngeles.CityRegions.Com, November 24, 2014 ) Los Angeles, California -- Agility is said to be a person’s ability to change direction or change speed whenever it is needed. However, there are still other factors that affect an individual's agility. These include balance, coordination, speed and power. For an athlete to possess agility, all of these factors should be included.
Trained Sports CEO, Chris Moal, shares some of the techniques that training coaches can include in agility training workout programs. These techniques should be incorporated into the athlete's routine and should be practiced by heart.
Some of the techniques discussed by Moal include arm action, visual focus, recovery, deceleration and biomechanics. All of these techniques are said to play an important role in the correct technique of agility drills.
For visual focus, the athlete's head must be in neutral position with his eyes focused straight ahead, regardless of the movement patter or direction the athlete is following. An exception to this technique is when an athlete needs to focus on another athlete or object. Furthermore, getting the head around and looking for a new focus point should start all changes in directions.
Powerful arm motion while transitioning and changing direction is crucial in order to achieve a large speed. Inappropriate and insufficient arm movement may lead of loss of efficiency or speed.
The capacity of an athlete to change speed is crucial in changing directions so this ability should also be practiced.
Training coaches should train their athlete's agility by ensuring that drills are done at work and rest intervals that are similar to the sport that the athlete is training for. It is also a good idea to pair an athlete with another athlete of similar capacity.
"Let your players perform the drill in a competitive atmosphere while always being mindful of the proper technique than being more critical with the speed with which the drill is performed," Moal concludes.
