(LosAngeles.CityRegions.Com, November 24, 2014 ) Los Angeles, California -- When people talk of strength training, most people think of the regular free weights or sometimes machine. Working out with resistance bands is something that people don't usually think about. Chris Moal of Trained Sports shares to customers the purpose of resistance bands and how to use them.
For Moal, resistance bands are great workout tools especially when travelling or adding a variety into daily workout routines.
"What most people think about resistance bands is that they feel different about the resistance. When using free weights, gravity plays a role on determining where the weight comes from. This way, you feel more resistance on one part of the movement than the other. But with bands, the tension is the same, which could make it feel more difficult," Moal explains.
Bands actually act more like cable machines, allowing a person to apply constant tension to the muscle. There is also a need to include more stabilizer muscles in order to maintain the band in alignment all throughout the exercise. This adds a different force into the same old routines.
Resistance bands also are not as difficult as dumbbells and machines. When using weights, it is easy to know how much is being lifted. With bands, however, a person only has to go by feeling the tension on the band.
"This however does not mean that you won't be getting a good workout. Using good form and the correct level of tension will not make any difference on your muscle fibers whether you use bands or weights," Moal adds.
Resistance bands also have the advantage of adding more variety since it is possible to create the resistance in all directions – below, sides and overhead.
