Los Angles Press Releases

(LosAngeles.CityRegions.Com, November 24, 2014 ) Los Angeles, California -- Apart from sport specific training, agility training could be the main way to determine success in a sport. Sports do not always require straight line motion but need constant changes of direction where lateral movements are used in various planes of movements all at the same time. This is where agility training comes in.
Chris Moal of Trained Sports talks more about why athletes need agility training.
"Since sports movements are started from different body positions, athletes have to react with explosiveness, strength and quickness from various positions. However, since the focus is placed on the physical attributes in sports, off-season programs also focus on strength training almost exclusively," Moal says.
Usually, agility and speed development are taken for granted according to Moal. Sometimes, training focuses only on little blocks of time during the preseason. Agility is a neutral capacity that is improved with repetition. Research has revealed that an increase in strength and speed is not more effective in improving agility than participating in training that specifically develops agility.
Athletes' performance in most sports today has significantly increased the level of agility that is needed for the success of an athlete.
"Agility training gives athletes plenty of performance advantages that include improved athleticism, reduction in risks of injury and reduced recovery time," Moal adds.
A complete agility program should address the different elements of agility that include power, strength, coordination, acceleration, balance and flexibility.
It is also important for training coaches to instruct athletes to execute agility exercises with the proper technique. Proper execution should be given more focus than speed movement. Speed movement can then be improved once the proper execution technique is already mastered.
