(LosAngeles.CityRegions.Com, December 11, 2014 ) Los Angeles, California -- Resistance bands have become popular nowadays but just like any other sports equipment, making the best out of it entails safety measures. Trained Sports CEO and fitness enthusiast, Chris Moal, shares some tips on how to ensure that resistance bands remain safe for use.
Ensure that the bands do not have any damage before using them. "If you notice any cuts or nicks to the latex rubber, do not attempt using the band. Also inspect if the handles are secure and in superb condition and that there is no damage to the grips," Moal shares.
If using any kind of accessory such as to poles or door jambs also inspect if they are all in perfect condition and is securely attached into place.
"The least thing you would expect from a resistance band is to break from position when fully stretched and end up flying towards your face," Moal adds.
This warning also goes for any resistance exercise and that it is not recommended to use too much resistance that a person can handle. "Start with small resistance going up to greater resistance while your strength and technique improves. This will make sure that you follow proper form, which will dramatically reduce your chances of injuries," Moal continues.
There are also some things to remember while using resistance bands according to Moal. Never place resistance band handles over the feet or else they could slip off and strike the user. A band should never be stretched more than two and a half times their length. Resistance bands should not be used on uneven surfaces and never used for other activities aside from exercises they were made for.
Resistance bands but just like other sports equipment, proper care is a crucial part in order to guarantee safety and proper function.
In cleaning the band, simply use a damp cloth and avoid using other cleaning products such as soap or bleach since these may damage the band's strength. Bands should be stored in a dry place away from direct flame or sunlight. The weakest part of resistance bands is the one where the handles and the band are connected. These should be checked prior to each use.
