(LosAngeles.CityRegions.Com, December 12, 2014 ) Los Angeles, California -- Resistance bands are not made the same but Chris Moal of Trained Sports says they can be grouped in two categories. The first type is a basic colored rubber strap, which do not have handles for gripping. They have to be wrapped around the hands or placed under the feet when using them. The bands are color coded according to tension and can be in a loop or strip. This type of band is usually used for rehabilitation therapy.
The second type of resistance band is the kind that has handles fitted to its ends. This kind of band also comes in different tensions, lengths and colors. The difference between this kind and the first one is that this kind comes with handles.
"This makes this kind of resistance band more comfortable to use. There are also resistance bands that have removable handles so you can use them for other bands," Moal says.
It is also possible to change bands or use more than two bands at a time. There are also accessories for bands that can be fitted into the ankle for leg workouts or position it to posts in order to simulate overhead or back workouts.
"Keeping the bands in great shape will help ensure that you can get the best workout from it," Moal adds. Resistance bands should be stored loosely in order to make them stay in shape. Bands should also be stored in a place out of direct sunlight.
To clean resistance bands, wash it with water and use a soft cloth to get rid of sweat and dirt. Check the bands prior to each use in order to ensure that they don't have rips or scratches in them. Slowly pull the band taut to see if the surface is smooth and even.
