Mr. Muffin On How Baking Helps Make People Happy

Structured and non-stressful activities can help deal with increasing well-being and helping depression. Conventional occupational therapies usually work based on a projection or physical platform. "For instance, exercise routines improve physical well-being and enable the release of endorphin's that can fight depression. Art therapy also supports a patient in projecting his depression with his artwork. This also helps a patient in understanding his condition. Baking on the other hand can work on both physical and projection platforms," Levy shares.

Baking does have physical elements such as cutting and kneading. There are also artistic and creative elements of baking such as in decorating biscuits and cakes. Another way baking can be therapeutic is the act of sharing baked goods, which can definitely lift a person's spirits.

However, Levy also warns that eating too much baked goods can take away some of these benefits. "We all know too much of something can be bad. Just watch out on the amount of sugar you are consuming from baked goods or else it can lead to another problem," Levy says.
