(LosAngeles.CityRegions.Com, February 16, 2015 ) Carson, California -- Many people use grilling gloves and oven mitts daily for cooking and baking, many of which are made of cloth. The few heat or water resistant BBQ gloves that are not always made completely of cloth raise concerns of BPA contained in the gloves that could then seep into the food handles while wearing the gloves.
BPA stands for bisphenol A. it is an industrial-grade chemical that is found in epoxy resins and polycarbonate plastic. Metal and plastic container and caps used for selling, storing and cooking food are sometimes coated with these chemicals. Plastic containers used for microwaving, plastic water bottles, canned foods and drinks and plastic storage containers usually contain trace amounts of BPA on their inner surfaces. This BPA can at times seep into food and has been own to cause problems in kids and adults, as well as in unborn fetuses whose mothers have been exposed to the chemical. Nothing has been concretely proven yet and the FDA continues to run tests to determine the effects of BPA on humans.
If customers are worried about using products that might contain BPA, they can make a few changes to their shopping, cooking and storing styles. Look out for products that are marked as BPA free. Avoid consuming canned foods on a regular basis and do not sue plastic and polycarbonate utensils for microwaving. Instead, switch to stainless steel, glass and porcelain for cooking and storing.
