Laker Girls Lunch Date at Carl's Jr.

(LosAngeles.CityRegions.Com, March 04, 2015 ) Shadow Hills, CA -- The Laker Girls posed during their third annual Lunch Date at Carl's Jr. in Southern California. The girls met fans, signed autographs, and gave away burger coupons, tickets and Lakers goodies. They posed for pictures in front of Step and Repeat LA's red and white backdrop, which featured the Laker's and Carl's Jr.'s logos in a step and repeat pattern.

The Laker Girls were originally formed in 1979, shortly after Jerry Buss bought the LA Lakers. At that time, cheerleaders were uncommon in the NBA, but Buss told Susan Carpenter in her 1999 article, The Bod Squad, "I thought the game itself was fantastic, but the ambience was really kind of dead. It was quiet and boring, and so I thought what I'd like to do is spice it up with having some dancers." He added "They're a very important piece of the puzzle. I can't imagine the Lakers without the Laker Girls." Many fans feel the same way.

Initially, Buss had girls from USC and UCLA come to the games and cheer. It added entertainment and excitement, and that was the kind of atmosphere he wanted at the games, so the Laker Girls were officially formed. One Laker Girl describes being a Laker Girl as "part-time, but full-time." In addition to rehearsals, tours, appearances and other events, some Laker Girls manage to maintain full-time jobs.
