(LosAngeles.CityRegions.Com, March 14, 2015 ) Los Angeles, California -- Trained Sports CEO shares a new study about people with Type 2 diabetes on the use of resistance bands for strength training and whether it can help control blood sugar level and improve risk factors for heart disease.
Calgary researchers would like to determine the effects of exercise on people suffering with type 2 diabetes focusing on risk factors on heart disease and blood sugar control. The researchers are looking for people with type 2 diabetes and who want to get into shape to join their study that aims to look at whether resistance bands for strength training can help improve blood sugar control and risk factors for heart disease. The study would like to have 80 participants with type 2 diabetes willing to join a six-month program.
"Resistance training is known to build strength and as a result, makes the insulin in the body work better. If the study reveals that strength training using resistance bands will work then it means that people with Type 2 diabetes will enjoy the advantages of becoming a gym member at a much cheaper cost," says Chris Moal, Trained Sports CEO.
Other studies have already looked at the effect of resistance training using other equipment such as weight machines found in gyms. However, this is the first major study to see if resistance bands, which are cheaper and more mobile, is a good alternative.
The study looks for participants who are at least 35 years old and is presently not taking insulin for Type 2 diabetes. A participant should also have no difficulty walking for 10 minutes.
Participants of the study will be randomly assigned an exercise program: aerobic training only or aerobic training along with resistance-band training. Most of the exercises will be done just within the participants' homes but there are also group-based sessions that will be overseen by an exercise specialist.
"We are expecting to see positive results for this study since we already know that resistance bands are great at exercising different muscle groups," Moal adds.
Trained Sports Resistance bands are one of the products of the company and are exclusively available on Amazon.
