Step And Repeat LA Makes Movie Magic Happen

(LosAngeles.CityRegions.Com, April 07, 2015 ) Shadow Hills, CA -- Using state-of-the-art printing resources, Step and Repeat LA can now produce high-quality green screens for use in film production.

Aside from baseball, one of the truly great American pastimes is an evening spent at the cinema. But what is it about big screen adventures that continue to draw millions of spectators year after year?

Is it the deliciously tempting taste of theatre popcorn? The stars and their sweeping stories of triumph and tragedy? Or, how about the awe-inspiring special effects, which help people escape from ordinary lives into a fantastical new world never before imagined possible?

Perhaps it is a culmination of things - though history will show some of the most successful films of all time have been those featuring these eye-popping special effects.

To achieve this modern day illusion, visual effects artists have often turned to the use of chroma key compositing, or "green screens" in order to bring the script writer's story to life.

Though "chroma keying" may seem like a fairly modern marvel, use of this technology can be traced back to as early as the 1930s. At RKO Radio Pictures studio, Lynwood Dunn used an early form of this process - known then as "traveling matte" - to create wipe transitions in such films as Flying Down to Rio (1933).

In 1940, Larry Butler also used this technology in the film The Thief of Bagdad to give the illusion of a genie emerging from a bottle, for which his efforts won an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.

Since then, the film industry has made astounding leaps with the use of green screens. In fact, with the development of computers, visual effects artists can now create fully computer-generated backgrounds to composite with their live-action actors, allowing for the imagination of the filmmakers to know no limits. Noteworthy projects that have used this technology have been such films as the Lord of the Rings series, Avatar (2009), and even the hit TV-show, Once Upon a Time.

And now Step and Repeat LA brings this technology home with their latest product: green screens! This offering has proven to be especially helpful for independent filmmakers and photographers who wish to take their imaginative ideas to the next level, and prove that with a little innovation and creative thinking, anyone can produce Hollywood-style results for a fraction of the cost.
