(LosAngeles.CityRegions.Com, June 12, 2015 ) Los Angeles, CA -- Team Weather Permitting reports that they have been doing research and product comparison on their new moisture wicking t-shirt. They have also been researching what people are looking for in a performance sport shirt. In the process they have also found what people don't like about performance t-shirts.
So what is "wicking?"
Wicking is defined as "the flow of liquids through porous media." Wicking fabric is a term most commonly associated with performance and technical style apparal. This style of t-shirt is popular because of its ability to breathe and keep the user's skin dry from sweat. The fabric literally wicks sweat and moisture away from the body to keep the person's skin dry.
In t-shirt terms, then, wicking translates into the fabric being breathable and allowing sweat to transfer from the wearer's body to the air around them. These types of shirts have a few extra benefits to them including being lightweight, and they are antimicrobial so they fight odor.
Since cotton holds water, wicking material is typically composed of a syntheticfabric such as polyester or a combination of polyester and cotton. Since wicking fabric is a technological product, it does in fact cost more than standard t-shirts. This is money well spent when considering all of the benefits of wicking fabric and its intended use for performance t-shirts.
Weather Permitting's CEO, Robbie Robinson says, "It is important to feel good when involved in strenuous outdoor activity and a high quality wicking fabric might be the advantage you are looking for."
He goes on to say, "Cotton fabrics have good absorbing quality but have a few side effects. Anyone that's ever owned cotton shirts knows that the fabric wrinkles easily and losses its color and shape if washed roughly. But, we've learned through our research that when cotton is mixed with polyester, the fabric is able to retain its color and shape even after going through various washing treatments."
Cotton/polyester can be blended in different ratios for many uses. Generally the cotton poly mix is 51% cotton/49% polyester. This is a standard version and is used in manufacturing such things as bed sheets and pillow cases.
A mix of 65% of polyester and 35% of cotton is used to make durable blankets. With a good quality blend of cotton/polyester a variety of items such as spots wear, track suits, t-shirts, hooded sweat shirts and denim can be created.
"Our research shows that the most common complaint with the 100% polyester shirts is that they unravel quickly, don't hold their shape, feel uncomfortable next to the skin – wet or dry - and they tend to shrink unless carefully washed. Odors can become ‘imprinted' in the fabric and never wash out. Many complain of the cheapness and thinness of the fabric."
"The common praise from our customers in the Amazon Customer Review section of our page, is that our moisture wicking t-shirts are very comfortable, high quality, fit great and hold their shape. We found the industry standard for this type of shirt is 15-30 seconds. The fabric we use has a 3-5 second moisture transport rate so you really get a great shirt that performs the way you want it to." he said.
Weather Permitting's Moisture Wicking T-shirts are on sale now at 40% off on Amazon through Father's Day.
