Prohoze Finds New Uses For Old Garden Hoses

Heavy buckets, especially galvanized buckets, can be extremely uncomfortable to carry. The handle of a bucket can be padded by cutting a piece of garden hose to the size of the handle and slitting it down the side and then placing it over the handle of the bucket.

Garden pests, such as earwigs, enjoy living in dark, damp places. A piece of hose pipe provides the perfect habitat for these destructive creatures. Earwigs will crawl into the hose pipe during the night and in the morning they can be disposed of, thus saving the garden from further decimation.

Garden and household tools such as saws, large knives, axes, hacksaws, chain saws and even ice skates can be a danger to children and pets. An easy solution to this problem is to cover the blades with a section of split hose pipe, thus immediately removing the danger.

Young trees often need to be staked during their early years to enable them to grow straight. Wire and rope can damage the bark and cause the tree to die. The wire or rope can be threaded through a piece of hose pipe which can then be wrapped around the tree and staked to the ground. The soft rubber of the hose pipe will prevent damage to the saplings.

There is usually at least one member of the family who doesn't seem to be able to manoeuvre the car into the garage without scraping it and another member who doesn't know how long the car is and is constantly bumping into the wall. The irritating scratches and dents which go with this, can be prevented by attaching pieces of garden hose pipe to the wall at bumper height and to the garage doors.
