(LosAngeles.CityRegions.Com, July 02, 2015 ) Los Angeles, CA -- Robbie Robinson, the CEO of Weather Permitting, has recently finished the autobiography about his year in Vietnam entitled Vietnam Diary 1966-1967 . The book was released on Amazon the 24th of June and the e-book version has had almost 700 downloads so far. The first review is already in titled, "A young romantic seeks adventure."
"I am Brad in the book, so I have personal knowledge of many of the characters. To the extent that I have known Skeeter more than fifty years colors my opinion. Nonetheless, I think it is a worthwhile read for anyone looking for adventure and seeking meaning in life. My own daughter is currently in the military, but thankfully not in physical peril at this time. To say that era was difficult for the youth would understate the angst we experienced. Today's youth has its own hill to climb and it is made steeper by the financial climate. The struggles and perils overcome by this young man transcend generational differences. The humor amidst the terror makes it real and human. I read this in one sitting, not something I usually do. I give it my highest rating."
Robbie undertook this writing task at the prompting of his wife, Karen, his partner in Weather Permitting. It was difficult for him to begin the project as there were many unpleasant memories associated with that year. His family had kept all his letters sent home and he had written a sporadic journal during his time there. The war journal was made easier to confront because he could assemble these in a chronological order and add some present time remembrances and not have to dredge up the whole story from painful memories.
In the book Robbie touches on his exposure to Agent Orange and its effects on him and thousands of other troops exposed to this deadly chemical provided to the military by the chemical giant Monsanto and a few of its minions. Subsequent to his return from Vietnam, in 1997 Robbie got recurring Non-Hogkins Lymphoma, as a direct result of exposure to Agent Orange, and had to undergo chemotherapy which drove it into remission. But over the years it returned no less than 4 times, the last being in 2014 when it went into remission again with aggressive chemotherapy.
He can no longer receive chemotherapy because his immune system has been compromised to the point he gets seriously ill from the drugs. He is currently in remission and is working to stay that way. All of the chemotherapy left Robbie with peripheral neuropathy in both legs and seriously damaged his overall health. Yet he lives, luckier than many who did not. He had tremendous help from people via a GoFundMe campaign to battle the medical costs and to keep him healthy during and after his treatments.
Robbie is eligible for Social Security and is receiving Military Disability, but this is not enough to make ends meet. When Robbie met Karen in 2013 they fell in love and began one of those twilight romances late in life. Despite the disabilities, they formed a company, Weather Permitting, to sell outdoor related products on Amazon and it's in its first year of business. Both Robbie and Karen have had a love of the outdoors all their lives, Robbie being a snowboarder, body surfer, hiker, and camper - things he can no longer do because of his health. So he and Karen have taken their knowledge and passion and set up a company to provide products for other outdoor enthusiasts.
Today, Robbie and Karen are working in their new business, spending time with their grandchildren and moving forward into the future. Robbie's Vietnam Diary is also available on Amazon in paperback with a price point that will help keep him in organic food and immune supplements in an effort to battle any recurrence of the cancer while they build the business.
Robbie's Vietnam Diary was beautifully executed by Rigney Graphics as a gift for his service and friendship.
