One of the biggest concerns when it comes to any product, and more so with products used for cooking purposes, is safety. While silicone has multifarious benefits in the form of high temperature stability and durability to its name, consumers wonder if it is safe to use.
Silicone, which is composed mainly of oxygen and silicon was approved safe for use in food contexts by the FDA in 1979. Silicone which makes the grill gloves heat resistant, is tested to see if it can withstand high temperatures", he further added.
Grill Logic warns against the use products that have silicone with intermittent fillers. These fillers may cause the product to stick to food or leak bad odours into the food. A simple test can be performed to see if the silicone material is of good quality or has been contaminated; the silicone product should be twisted or pinched, and if any white substance reveals through the material then it means that it has been integrated with other filler substances.
