(LosAngeles.CityRegions.Com, August 10, 2015 ) Los Angeles, California -- Instead of retiring, Lee and Gary Jordan are entrepreneurs and owners of Love Your Kitchen, offering innovative home products on Amazon, besides being published novelists writing e-books for Kindle. They are announcing their new product, their special Love Your Kitchen Multi-Function Kitchen Shears, available on Amazon.
"We refuse to retire. It's not all about the money. Staying mentally active and challenged is important to our health. We now have the opportunity to do what we always wanted and didn't have time to do in our previous working life. On-line marketing is a joy because our time is our own and we don't have to get out of our pajamas if we don't want to."
Richard Wald, managing director of wealth management at Merrill Lynch, said of retiring, "Retirement is no longer a distinct moment where a person works for one company for 40 years, has a retirement dinner, gets a nice watch, and then slowly disappears into the sunset. Retirement today is a much more dynamic and fluid process where people re-invent themselves and go through phases of transition."
Wald says, "For many retirees, this new phase of life is an opportunity to pursue something they did not have the chance to before."
The Merrill Lynch study shows that after decades of decline, working in later life is making a comeback. Today, 40% of people aged 55-plus are working—a level of engagement in work among this age group not seen since the 1960s. Lee and Gary say, "Being baby-boomers, learning how to navigate the Internet was a huge learning curve. It seems the technology comes naturally to the younger generation, living without the Internet being unimaginable and sending emails, posting on Facebook, Instagraming being an integral part of life. However, for the baby-boomer generation and older, navigating the World Wide Web can be not only challenging, it can be scary."
"We overcame our fears and no longer feel like travelers in a foreign country. We have learned how to set-up websites, and even learned some html coding. However, our first website was pretty awful, road kill on the information highway."
They came up with the idea of their company Love Your Kitchen when they became interested in helping people make work in the kitchen easier. They now maintain two popular websites and are very active on Facebook, Goodreads, Twitter, Linkedin, and Pinterest. Not only that, after developing two new kitchen products, they have several more products planned and are working two new novels.
