download The Guy Who Walks On The Freeway (LosAngeles.CityRegions.Com, August 21, 2015 ) Los Angeles, California -- LA Photographer Alex Scott went out at midnight with bestselling Indy Author, film maker and YouTube personality, Garrett Robinson to film a YouTube video for a behind the scenes look at Alex's new KickStarter project.
Their journey began near the intersection of the Ventura 134 and the Glendale 2 freeways. Part of the Alex's process is climbing around the hills but Garrett only ever wears Reef sandals, so Alex brought a flashlight to help Garrett see where he was going. This made them far more noticeable than Alex usually is when he's out shooting.
This freeway interchange is well policed and they saw a cop shining his spotlights around the hills. Alex figured he must have seen the flashlight and came looking for them, but Garrett and Alex were too far away by then to be seen. This was the closest call Alex has had on any of his night shoots. He's never even come close to being caught in any of his freeway escapades.
Their next stop was the CA Interstate 5 and Pasadena 110 intersection – one of Alex's favorite spots with lots of graffiti. There's an old Art Deco walkway there that goes between Montecito Heights and China Town that's his number one choice to shoot. Garrett was amazed by the place noting how there's so much about the city that you never get to see or even know about.
There is a lot of construction going on in the vicinity of that intersection with a fence at the entrance to the walkway that blocks it off. As they walked up to the gate, Alex just opened it. Garrett was surprised that it was unlocked, but Alex has the experience to know that you always check.
As they were leaving, they also found the gate was open to the LA River. Alex had never been there, so he shot a number of new photos for the KickStarter project that can be seen in the YouTube video.
At the next and final stop, Garrett actually showed Alex a new location – under the 6th Street Bridge. Previously Alex had only shot from the top, so he took several more new photos to add to his body of work.
The 6th Street Bridge is a popular place to shoot; you can see it in many music videos and movies. Alex asked one of the homeless guys living under the bridge if he ever sees photographers down there. The man said yes, but never at night – demonstrating how unique Alex's KickStarter project is.
Garrett said of his night out with Alex, "That is as much excitement as I have ever had in the city of Los Angeles, despite having lived here my entire life!"
A $2,500 contributor to Alex's KickStarter campaign is awarded a night shoot with the photographer.
