A Photographer's Obsession With LA In The Dead Of Night

(LosAngeles.CityRegions.Com, August 22, 2015 ) Los Angeles, California -- Chances are most people are not on the LA freeways often in the middle of the night, but if they have been there over the last two years, it's possible they've at least driven by photographer Alex Scott as he was working on what's turned out to be a unique artistic endeavor.

A lifetime resident of Los Angeles, Scott, a longtime night owl, has been enchanted with the empty beauty of LA's interstate network when the rest of the city is sleeping. It was this enchantment that first spurred the project that became NOBODY WALKS IN LA.

"I was really surprised by people's reactions when I started showing the photos I took," Scott says. "I had one friend tell me this series of shots made him fall in love with Los Angeles all over again."

He was equally surprised by the number of requests he received to bind and sell the images into a book of art photography, and so he took the project to KickStarter.

Like so many other artists today, Scott is taking the middle man out of marketing his work. Kickstarter allows him to offer his book directly to people who are interested, without the aid of publisher or distributor. Kickstarter also gives people a chance to "get involved" in the process, to identify with the artist.

One of Scott's contributors explains, "It kind of feels like he couldn't have done this book without my help. I've become part of the process."

And Scott concurs. "I'm depending on people, both friends and strangers, who love art and who love Los Angeles, to help me pull this campaign off." What his donors will get in return is a view of LA that they might never otherwise experience.

To give the public a taste of what' it's like photographing the freeways at night, Scott and his step-brother, bestselling Indy Author and film maker, Garrett Robinson made a video for YouTube that is garnering hundreds of views on Facebook as well.
