Facebook Is Set To Rival Google As The Major Traffic Source For News

(LosAngeles.CityRegions.Com, August 25, 2015 ) Los Angeles, California -- It was recently announced by Parse.ly that Facebook had overtaken Google in terms of being the largest source of referral traffic to news sites. The information was released in the latest Parse.ly report for the May-July 2015 period.

Whilst these figures are represented across Parse.ly's clients and are not necessary the case across the internet globally, their client group is a list of over 400 major media companies.

Facebook continues to grow in significance in the online media race. Commentators have been watching for a while now as the race between Facebook and Google played out and the data from Parse.ly maybe symbolic of a slow trend away from traditional organic search engine referrals to more social driven referrals.

Whilst people involved in the media industry have a good appreciation of how important social platforms are, it doesn't take the local business owner long to also realize the significance of these platforms. As more and more people use these platforms to engage and share information, the more news is shared. Links to breaking news spread like wildfire between interest groups, friends and family. People are turning to social media sites like Facebook to get their news.
