One Of The Few Successful Kickstarter Campaigns Launches The Product

LA Night Photographer Alex Scott rescues kitten on the 110 freeway

(LosAngeles.CityRegions.Com, December 12, 2015 ) Los Angeles, California -- According to Kickstarter, their campaigns have a 36.56% success rate and most of them raise less than $10,000. Out of a total of 97,295 successfully funded projects in all categories, only 12,395 raised over $20,000 up to $99,999 as of December 7, 2015.

In the category of photography there have been 2,441 successfully funded projects. Of the successfully funded photography projects, only 214 raised over $20,000 up to $99,999.

Los Angeles photographer, Alex Scott is one of those rare Kickstarter success stories having exceeded his target of $32,000 for his project - a fine art photo book of the images he took while walking on the LA streets freeways in the middle of the night. 407 backers pledged $34,720 to help bring this project to life.

Alex launched his KickStarter campaign on August 13, 2015 but the project actually began many years ago. With an artist's eye on the world from a very young age, he grew up seeing the streets and freeways of Los Angeles in a different way than the typical tired and frustrated commuters battling traffic every day. The seeds for this project began to germinate over a decade ago as his artistic career continued to grow.

Then, two and a half years ago, Alex began roaming the streets and freeways of LA in the dead of night searching for the perfect shots. He took thousands of daring photographs by climbing hills, rusty fences, and overpasses, slipping down oily embankments, dodging cops, cars, trucks and motorcycles to capture those rare, brief moments when the streets and freeways are empty of vehicles. He even rescued a kitten on the 110 overpass in the early morning hours before sunrise.

He created a hashtag #nobodywalksinla that currently has over 3,000 posts. There were uncountable tweets and Facebook likes and shares for the project. Blogs were written and published by the likes of The Huffington Post, Los Angeles Magazine, Daily Herald, BuzzFeed, Light Stalking, PetaPixel and more in support of the project, with an interview on the popular YouTube channel The Red Booth.

His photographs captured the notice of Boom, A Journal of California published by UC Press for an article on the history of LA's night lights. The magazine purchased and published four of Alex's photos that featured unique street lights in different areas of the city.

There is an open invitation to the release party of the photo book Nobody Walks In LA at the Erin Hanson Gallery, 2732 Gilroy St, Los Angeles, California 90039 on Saturday, December 12, 2015 from 7-11 pm. Alex's friend and collector, actor Danny Masterson is hosting. Organizers are asking people to confirm their attendance via the Facebook Invite, by text or Alex's website to help them plan accordingly.
