EAGems Expansion Prompts Owners To Consider Adding Assistance With Customer Service Lines

EAGems has had an online presence for about thirteen years, mostly under their full name as Edward Allen Gems.

Owners Edward and Rhonda Hedgecock started the small company as a husband and wife partnership, offering extra copies of used lapidary and mineral magazines they had collected while trying to fill in missing pieces for their personal collection. With a large batch of unique semi-precious rough material and slices of agate and jasper they managed to acquire over the years, they quickly expanded to selling more than just used magazines.

In 2008, they increased their internet visibility from selling through eBay only to their own website as well. Their initial offerings included a few pages for the rough slabs, polished cabochons and stones, as well as the magazines. Over the years the pages have grown to include a number of varieties in each of the categories.

According to Rhonda, keeping up with the details of offering and shipping one of a kind products through the internet has often been a challenge and limited by the number of hours in a day for just two people.

About a year ago they recognized the growing market with the opportunities available through Amazon for certain types of products. They decided to take advantage of Amazon's FBA service (Fulfilled By Amazon). This allowed them to sell more volume without requiring more time to handle the shipping where certain products were concerned.

So besides starting with their own digital caliper through the EAGems brand, they expanded with a few other unique and one-of-a-kind items previously sold through their website. Their listings for certain products, like their agate pendants, petrified wood specimens and small geodes, presented unique items that were yet similar enough to be made available through a single offer page of each type.

Customer service is considered of key importance to the company and as such, time is taken to ensure customers are happy with their items, tips are offered and more. Now their expansion has increased to the point of needing to add help in the customer service area. So EAGems is considering their options for that next step of growing their business.
